Consumer Drop-In Centers

CHAIN OF HOPE & SECOND HOPE CONSUMER DROP-IN CENTER

Chain of Hope and Second Hope Consumer Drop-In Center was developed to serve all mental health and mental retardation consumers in Allegheny County who desire the opportunity to engage in fellowship with other consumers.  Our goal is to help consumers reestablish links to the community by both informal activities and structural programming.  Our vision is the total empowerment of mental health and mental retardation consumers in all aspects of daily life.  This is achieved through peer support and role modeling.

The centers are entirely run by consumers, for consumers.  We currently have two full-time staff members, a Director and an Assistant Director.  We also employ a part-time janitor and a number of consumer volunteers.

The Chain of Hope is home to the Nancy Abel Memorial Computer Center, named after the center’s founder.  Here, consumers are provided with the opportunity to learn and practice computer skills with the help of a tutor.

The center also offers a wide variety of activities for MH/MR individuals.  There are various groups, outings, holiday celebrations and picnics each month.
