Who We Are:Milestone is a private, nonprofit, community-based agency providing services to people with behavioral and intellectual challenges throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. We were founded in 1969 in response to the Pennsylvania Mental Health & Mental Retardation Act of 1966. Our philosophy of inclusion, community integration and recovery—the core notions of social services—was far ahead of its time when our agency launched, and today we continue to provide our consumers with progressive intellectual and behavioral health care service solutions. Our mission is to provide quality, life-enhancing services that promote wellness and the development of human potential.
Families, children, and individuals are helped through personal and confidential counseling; rehabilitation and training; information and referral services for the mentally challenged; consultation, education and prevention services; services to families with a mentally or emotionally challenged child; developmental activities programs; residential programs for the mentally challenged; partial hospitalization; and inpatient care. To learn more about the vast array of services we can provide to you, your friends or your family, please be sure to vist our Programs & Services Main Page where you can find extensive information on what we offer and who you should contact. Milestone distinguishes itself as an exemplary agency by virtue of its entrepreneurial approach to consumer service and organizational capacity. Our agency has developed considerable skill and flexibility in packaging and delivering new services: we draw upon a synergy between the components of our organization and use technology effectively to manage business and deliver, track and gauge the progress of therapies for our consumers. Milestone has established a niche in a very competitive marketplace by finding innovative solutions for perfecting individual care. We serve approximately 8,000 persons each year and we are affiliated with the Allegheny County MH/MR Program.
