New Resource Directories for Deaf & Hard of Hearing
January 12, 2006 NEW RESOURCE DIRECTORIES FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PEOPLE Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing have access to two new resource directories recently released by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Behavioral Health. “Allegheny County Resource Guide of Behavioral Health Providers for Persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing” lists healthcare providers that have experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. “Allegheny County and State Community Support Resource Guide of Services for Persons who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing” provides information on behavioral health services and non-behavioral health services and resources available. The directories are the result of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Behavioral Health Task Force. The Task Force was formed by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Behavioral Health and the Center for Hearing and Deaf Services with the purpose to help deaf and hard of hearing people achieve better access to behavioral health services. The Task Force, representing 14 providers, 20 stakeholders and ten consumers, included state and county government officials, educators, advocacy groups, mental health providers, insurance providers, health professionals and social service agencies. They met for a year and one half to complete the project. In addition to persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, the directories are also helpful for persons who are deafblind, physicians, audiologists, behavioral health providers and the general community. The directories are available on the county web site at: www.county.allegheny.pa.us/dhs/BH/guide.html. A limited number of hard copies are also available and can be requested by contacting Angela Stribling at 412-350-7312 or astribling@dhs.county.allegheny.pa.us. # # # Click here to return to our Programs & Services Main Page |
