Milestone Breaks Ground on Smart Home

On Friday, October 20, 2006, Milestone broke ground on a Blueroof Technologies “Smart” Home for aging people with mental retardation. This facility, located in Penn Hills, will be a new home for 3 of the agency’s aging clients.

Blueroof Technologies, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation based in McKeesport, PA and its mission is to research, develop and provide housing with integrated technology that allows the elderly and disabled to stay in their residences longer and function more independently within their homes. The Blueroof “smart” house will offer Milestone’s clients a residence that is safe and secure and is equipped with innovative technology and fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This easily-manufactured and affordable house will feature full wheelchair access throughout the facility, built-in safety and security features and technology that will allow for remote monitoring of the residents and the facility.
